Bear Some Fruit... Making room for JOY
JOY. Defined by some as calm delight ( I like that ). I want more of it, don't you? I want it to have more weight in my lifeand the lives of those around me. So how do we make room for joy? Well, anytime we concern ourselves with bearing fruit we have to be mindful of what can try and divert the nutrients from growing our fruit. Matthew 13 exposes this truth, and its direct effect on you having the Holy Spirit reveal joy in you and through you.
Matthew 13: 3-23 tells us of the sower and his seed. His seed is revealed as the words of the Kingdom in verse 19. With that in mind, let's look at verse 22.
Now he who received seed (words of the Kingdom) among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
Here Jesus tells us that we can become unfruitful when we let the words of the Kingdom get choked out in our lives. Get choked out by what? I'm going to focus on 1 right now - cares of this world. Cares here means - worries, anxieties, distractions, burdens. Wow! That is like the antonym of Joy (my calm delight). In other words, these thorns divide your mind. You can't trust, and not trust at the same time. You can't be anxious and be calm at the same time. When this takes hold we begin operating from - Can He? Will He? Maybe with them, but not with me! Is He able? Can His Kingdom come and will be done even in this situation? YOU BECOME DOUBLE MINDED, AND JOY DOES NOT GROW HERE.
So, let's do something. Let's make room for His Calm Delight - His Joy.
Holy Spirit, will you reveal any thorns trying to choke out His Word of the Kingdom in my life? Will You reveal any worries, anxieties, distractions, or burdens that are on assignment to make me unfruitful? The Word declares - Cast ALL your cares (same word) on Him, for He cares for you. We do that right now. We want Your joy and fruit to grow and flourish in us. We willingly release these things and put them on Jesus, in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Bless you brothers and sisters. Go bear some fruit, and walk in Calm Delight - Joy.
